FAQ: About Foster Care Support Foundation

  • What is the Foster Care Support Foundation?

FCSF is a nonprofit organization that provides free essential needs services such as clothing, toys, books, school supplies, safe infant care equipment, and more to displaced children in foster and relative care throughout Georgia. Our mission is to strengthen the ability of foster and relative care families to meet the needs of their children and reduce the need for institutionalized care.

  • Who does FCSF serve?

We serve displaced children in Georgia who receive zero to base per diem financial support. This includes children in foster care, relative care, kinship care, grandparents raising grandchildren, and youth who have recently aged out of foster care.

  • How long has FCSF been serving the community?

FCSF has been serving displaced children across Georgia since 2000 and has supported over 84,000 children through its programs.

👨‍👩‍👧 For Caregivers

  • How do I know if my child qualifies for assistance?

Children qualify if they are in a displaced care setting—such as foster care, relative care, or kinship care—and receive zero to base per diem or comparable SSI. Proof of placement and verification are required before receiving services. More details can be found on our services page.

  • What types of items are available?

Children may receive age-appropriate clothing, shoes, books, toys, school supplies, bicycles, and safe infant care equipment such as highchairs and strollers. All items are provided free of charge and based season and availability.

  • How do I schedule an Appointment?

Caregivers can request an appointment through our website under “Services.” Appointments are verified and scheduled at our Roswell Distribution Center. For families living far away, we also offer limited mail-out services.

  • Can children come with me to the Appointment?

Yes — children may attend with their caregiver under certain conditions.

Children ages 6 and older are welcome to accompany their caregiver and often enjoy choosing their own clothing and items that match their personal likes and style preferences.

Infants and younger children may come if they remain in a stroller during the visit. Strollers are available at the Distribution Center if needed.

Because safety and respect for others are important, children must stay with their caregiver at all times and not run or play throughout the facility.
If a child struggles to follow these rules or finds it difficult to remain close to the caregiver, it’s best not to bring them to the appointment so that the experience can remain safe and positive for everyone.

  • How often can families receive assistance?

Families that qualify can attend twice per year for support, Fall/Winter season and Spring/Summer season. Each appointment provides a full seasonal wardrobe and essential items for every eligible child.

🧩 For Social Workers & Agencies

DFCS caseworkers, CASA volunteers, school counselors, kinship care workers, and partner agencies can refer families by helping them to apply for services. Verification helps ensure each child meets eligibility requirements.

  • Do you partner with other organizations?

Yes! We collaborate with DFCS, CASA, Georgia State University’s Project Healthy Grandparents, and other community partners to identify children in need and coordinate support and verification.

  • Can I arrange for multiple families to receive assistance at once?

Families must apply individually for services. You may help complete applications easily online, and submit one application per family. We can coordinate appointment times to assist with carpooling between families. Please include that information during the registration process in the designated section.
